Saint Laurent and Anthony Vaccarello are parting ways. The announcement came on Friday, October 9, from Kering, the French group that owns the house. After ten years at the helm of the collections, the Belgian designer ends the journey that began in 2016, when he took over from Hedi Slimane. The name of his successor has not yet been revealed.

Rumors had been circulating for some time. They were fuelled by the latest Paris show, where a sequence of gold looks, conceived as a tribute to Yves Saint Laurent, was read by many as a possible farewell.

Vaccarello leaves a house to which he gave a precise identity. His work focused above all on proportions, the construction of the silhouette and the relationship between garment and body. Sculptural shoulders, sheer fabrics, metallic inserts and dark tones marked his collections. The tuxedo remained one of the recurring pieces, reworked through tailored cuts and solutions that helped define his interpretation of the Saint Laurent style.

During his tenure, the house reached considerable financial results. In 2022, revenues exceeded three billion euros.

In the official statement, Luca de Meo, CEO of Kering, thanked Vaccarello for his contribution to the identity of the fashion house and its international presence. Cédric Charbit, president and CEO of Saint Laurent, also acknowledged the designer’s work, recalling the company’s growth and the weight the brand has gained in contemporary culture.

The question of succession remains open. Kering has stated that the new creative lead will be announced shortly, without providing further details.

Born in Brussels in 1982 to Italian parents, Anthony Vaccarello studied sculpture and fashion at La Cambre, graduating in 2006. After winning the Hyères Festival, he worked at Fendi alongside Karl Lagerfeld, before launching his own label in Paris in 2009, known for asymmetric cuts and sensual lines.

In 2011 he received the ANDAM Prize. Four years later, in 2015, he was appointed creative director of Versus Versace.
