Michael Kors pays homage to the independence of 1970s icons. At the beginning of the show, Gloria Steinem, US journalist and activist and co-founder of women’s magazine MS, appeared with two friends, revealing how her collection this season is inspired by the muses and icons of the Seventies.
The starting moodboard were the women who made the history of women’s rights of those years: in addition to Gloria Steinem, the singer and actress Lena Horne, who was the first African-American to sign a contract with a Hollywood film major, but also Tina Turner, who decided to recover her identity as a woman and artist by re-emerging from a daily life made up of abuse and renunciation since childhood, up to Jane Fonda, icon of the pacifist opposition to wars and staunch environmentalist.
The first look that opened the show brought to mind Gloria Steinem, shield sunglasses, micro shorts and knee-high boots. The 70s nods then followed with other looks that kept hitting the runway in the form of bell bottoms, fringed short dresses, double-faced cashmere outerwear, double-breasted jackets, soft knit dresses with flowing bell sleeves .
The color palette ranged from shades of graphite and anthracite to the warmer tones of chocolate and chestnut, with chromatic moments of merlot and forest color.
Accessories, for this season, had a softer and more relaxed attitude: from fringed clutches to streamlined bucket bags, while boots dominated every look.
In the front row many actresses applauded the collection, including Kate Hudson, Katie Holmes, Lea Michele, Beatrice Grannò, Simona Tabasco, Isabelle Adjani and Mindy Kaling, together with the governor of New York Kathy Hochul and the television producer Ellen Pompeo.
