In the world of debuts, Simone Bellotti’s debut at Jil Sander already generated anticipation—not so much from distant curiosity, but from the kind that throbs in genuine anticipation. Bellotti, with a background rooted in fashion and design, has found his career at the intersection of artisanal expertise and contemporary vision. First at Bally—where he left his mark—now at Jil Sander becomes his playground for reinterpretation.
With Bellotti, minimalism is enriched with layers. Jil Sander (the founder) left a powerful legacy, later reinterpreted by Raf Simons, Vukmirovic, Paglialunga, and Luke and Lucie Meier. Bellotti takes over with the knowledge that he must engage with that legacy without sacrificing his own personal vision.
Backstage, she says: “I seek a balance between classicism and modernity through a discreet study of the unveiling of the body. Revealing the essence of the body with elegance is no easy feat.”
Design, Fontana-style cuts:
Bellotti doesn’t think in abstract concepts, but in terms of fit—and this concreteness shines through in his choices. Clean-cut jackets, pencil-tapered trousers, fine knitwear with pops of color, leather overcoats, and dresses that play with veils and double surfaces: inertia appears behind the garment, tension opens up in front.
In some designs, the body emerges through cuts inspired by Lucio Fontana’s engravings: not violent slits, but spaces that design and suggest. Jil Sander has already used this vocabulary—Raf Simons has made it a signature. Bellotti, however, introduces the word “cleanliness” as his signature, as a modern interpretation of minimalism from which to begin and reinvent the dialogue with Helmut Lang, with the Sander of old, and with those who have walked that path.
With this collection, Bellotti not only inaugurates a new season, but a potential starting point. A minimalism that speaks, that engages with the body, with light, with the sign. A cleanliness that doesn’t empty, but concentrates.
