GIORGIO THE GREAT, THE MAN WHO REWROTE ELEGANCE HAS LEFT US
For over ninety years, Giorgio Armani built a story that went far beyond fashion and shaped Italian culture. His strength was consistency: fabrics chosen with care, always luminous, impossible to mistreat. He never bowed to passing trends, protecting his creative DNA — a loyalty the market rewarded and the world admired.
His garments carried a sober and unmistakable cut: just one glance was enough to say “this is Armani.” Until the very end, he oversaw every detail — from makeup to the lines of the shows, to the backstage atmosphere itself. Work, for him, was always a mission.
Cinema also bears his mark: American Gigolo with Richard Gere, The Untouchables, The Dark Knight, The Wolf of Wall Street. Those outfits were never just costumes — they became part of the story, symbols of timeless elegance.
Italian excellence is something I love to celebrate and share with the world. Armani deserves that place. From the start of his career to ninety-one years of age, he followed one clear path: to build and strengthen Italian fashion. His success created jobs for thousands and helped shape the global idea of Made in Italy.
I must confess I inherited something simple from him: the habit of always wearing blue. Jeans and a blue T-shirt, even in casual contexts, became for me a mark of freedom and coherence. And as a photographer, standing behind the lens and not in front of it, I don’t need a perfect look — only the coherence of a style I feel as my own.
Today the world says goodbye to “Giorgio the Great,” but his style remains: a universal language that turned sobriety into luxury and elegance into truth.
