Design for the sophisticated woman, rooted in Italian craftsmanship
Widely hailed as “the designer for the sophisticated woman,” Duccio Venturi embodies the perfect fusion of traditional shoemaking and contemporary vision. Born into a historic family of shoemakers in the Marche region, he inhaled the scent of leather from a young age, learning to recognize its quality and work it with precision.
For him, the upper constitutes 60% of a shoe’s success. From material selection to cutting, assembly, and finishing, every step demands care and respect for an age-old craft. The final brushing becomes the gesture that reveals the accessory’s beauty and completes a feminine outfit’s elegance. After all, as Madonna reminds us, shoes “are as beautiful as sex, but last longer.”
Milan, Paris, and a dialogue with international fashion
Venturi’s path led him to Milan, collaborating with Cadette under Franco Moschino’s brand, then to Paris working alongside Thierry Mugler, and eventually back to Italy for a long-standing partnership with Sergio Rossi. Interestingly, Giuseppe Zanotti—four years his senior—also served briefly as his assistant, a passing of the torch that helped affirm the global excellence of Italian shoemaking.
The art of accessories: details that define style
For Duccio Venturi, every detail matters. A heel isn’t just a structure—it’s an aesthetic gesture that elevates the silhouette. Buckles, leather bows, and finishes: nothing is left to chance. His sandals highlight femininity with elegance and subtlety. From here emerges Venturi’s “Bottier” style, blending sensuality, craftsmanship, and modernity, turning the shoe into a narrative accessory of elegance.
The Venturi Method: authenticity above all
Venturi never compromises: “At Sergio Rossi, I had big contracts, but I preferred walking the factory floors with workers rather than doing PR with buyers. The product must speak for itself: without meat, the smoke is useless.”
A telling story emphasizes that fashion isn’t always about million-euro budgets. Reflecting on Tom Ford’s first collection, Venturi recalls: “You know, Alessandro, Tom Ford said he had the budget for only four pairs of shoes, rotated among models throughout the show. That’s made in Italy: achieving so much with so little, thanks to passion and ambition to excel.” He adds proudly: “I’m old school: I need to smell the materials, see the workers smile, talk with suppliers. Everything else—the fancy surroundings—I have no interest in.”
Duccio Venturi Bottier: a new era of elegance
In 2011, he launched Duccio Venturi Bottier, aiming to create timeless footwear, rewrite the codes of contemporary elegance, and sustain Italian artisanal tradition. Each piece represents a promise: elevating shoemaking to a symbol of authentic luxury, balancing aesthetics and functionality.
Future projects: the next step
Duccio has revealed several upcoming projects, though he hasn’t shared details. What he does promise are intriguing proposals born from his experience and rooted vision.
All that remains is to wish Duccio Venturi the success he deserves as a champion of Italian excellence in design and artisanal footwear production.
